Forest Service & Regional Travel Management Policies
The attached position paper and enclosures from ROC were sent to the Chief of the Forest Service at their national headquarters in Washington, DC in April 2008. It contains ROC recommendations to streamline the travel management planning process, to clarify ambiguous FS policy, and to encourage greater consistency in how FS regions are interpreting and applying the 2005 Travel Management Rule.

The June 7, 2009 Travel Management Plan Analysis (attached below) contains ROC’s latest research on several issues related to the travel management planning process in California. An earlier draft of this document was sent to all northern California Forest Supervisors, Regional Forester Randy Moore, FS Chief Gail Kimbell, and four northern California congressmen the end of March. Sylvia Milligan traveled to Washington, DC on April 19-21 and met with the staff of Congressmen Radanovich, Lungren, Herger, and McClintock. She also met with several Forest Service staff to discuss travel management planning.
On June 1, ROC met with Regional Office staff to discuss our concerns about the process and to request more time for the public to comment on Forest Draft Environmental Impact Statements. Two county representatives and Tim Holabird, representing the four northern California congressmen, attended the meeting. ROC presented several papers to Angela Coleman, Deputy Regional Forester, who promised to review our information in detail and respond to ROC. ROC’s thank you letter to Ms. Coleman is attached, which summarizes the topics discussed at the meeting.
